Thattekad-Kumarakom Birding Tour
Birding at Kumarakom (near the backwaters)-the Kumarakom bird sanctuary is located on the banks of Vembanad Lake. This is a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the Siberian stork, egret, darter heron and teal. Other common varieties like the woodpecker, skylark, crane, water hen and parrots can also be spotted here.
Thattekkad bird sanctuary is 12 km from Kothamangalam, which is on the Cochin-Munnar route. This sanctuary is notable for indigenous birds like the Malabar grey-hornbill, the woodpecker, rose-ringed and blue-winged parakeet etc. Rare birds like the Ceylon frog-moth and the Rose-billed roller are also seen here. Diverse migrant species home in here during seasons.
Peruvanmoozhi Birding Tour
Peruvanmoozhi is 60 km from Malabar. This is a bird watching center. There is also a crocodile farm in the vicinity. The bird sanctuary and a crocodile farm add to the charm of the place. From Kuttiyadi, Peruvanmoozhi is quite near.
